The most popular story on the NY Times online today was about the inconsistency of womens' clothing sizes.  The top television show is Dancing with the Stars.  I'm not passing judgment on anyone - enjoy life and all that - but maybe, just maybe, we should not act surprised if it turns out we've kind of peaked as a species.

3,000

Over 3,000 visitors in about nine months.  Thanks, everyone, for reading.  TCL averages about 14 unique visitors per day (not counting logins from my own computers and not counting multiple visits in a 24-hour period from the same person (can't imagine there are many of these)).

Some photos of our boat during the Blakely Rock Benefit Race, last weekend.

Below is us right-of-waying the Beneteau into a collision with the Melges.  Yes, it's a benefit, but right of way is right of way.

...the world we were going to make...

"We were kids without fathers…so we found our fathers on wax and on the streets and in history, and in a way, that was a gift. We got to pick and choose the ancestors who would inspire the world we were going to make for ourselves…Our fathers were gone, usually because they just bounced, but we took their old records and used them to build something fresh."

- Jay-Z

(note: not a commentary on my own father, but I love the idea of drawing inspiration not from what you are born into but from the best resources available to you)

"Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires."

- John Steinbeck
KING 5 was out shooting video for some weather special they have coming up, during the race yesterday. Here is a raw clip from their website. At 0:16 left in the video, when the camera starts to zoom out, our boat appears in the upper left (gray hull) headed for shore. This was during the starting sequence.
